Elva Sais

Elva Sais is Yocha Dehe Wintun Academy's primary class teacher. She received her BA in liberal arts from California State University Sacramento, and her MA in multi-cultural/bilingual education with an emphasis in reading from Santa Clara University. Elva holds a Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential with an emphasis in bilingual/cross-cultural education and she has her Reading Specialist Credential.

Before joining Yocha Dehe, Elva taught for 30 years in the Woodland and San Jose School Districts. As a reading specialist, Elva has conducted reading intervention groups for struggling students, coordinated school-wide instructional programs, taught in bilingual and dual immersion classrooms, and served as a mentor teacher and literary coach. Elva has provided teachers with professional development in the areas of reading and writing, and is a teacher consultant for the Area 3 Writing Project, a nationwide teachers-teaching-teachers model for staff development. Elva views herself as a life-long learner and sees each new challenge as a learning opportunity.
