Faculty & Administration

Yocha Dehe Wintun Academy is led by Director of Education Sarah Martinez and staff and the school’s board of trustees. Our staff and board are committed to the path of reaching cultural and linguistic goals for future generations, carrying the core values of the Tribe into all future possibilities. Director of Education

Sarah Martinez was born and raised in Sacramento, Calif. where she attended Sacramento public schools. After attending Sacramento City College for one year, Sarah transferred to the UC Davis, where she majored in Spanish and minored in sociology. She earned a bachelor’s degree in 1972.

Intermediate Class Teacher

Norman Campiz is the intermediate class teacher for Yocha Dehe Wintun Academy. He earned his BA in mathematics and his multicultural/multilingual elementary teaching credential from California State University Sacramento.

Prior to joining Yocha Dehe, Norman worked at the Woodland Unified School District, where he taught at Lee Middle School.

Preschool/Kindergarten Teacher

Marisa Garcia Fuentes is Yocha Dehe Wintun Academy's preschool/kindergarten teacher. She holds a BA in psychology with a minor in spanish, and an MA from Stanford University. Marisa has also earned her California Multiple Subject Teaching Credential with an emphasis in bilingual cross-cultural language and academic development, and is a lifetime member of Psi Chi, the National Honor Society in Psychology.

Behavior Assistant

Susan Kreun joined the Yocha Dehe Wintun Academy in April 2008 and is a behavior assistant.

Susan has a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Golden Gate University. She received her certificate in the autism spectrum disorders specialized studies program through the UC Davis Extension.

Admin Assistant, Tribal Community Liaison

Carol Miller is the Yocha Dehe Wintun Academy administrative assistant and tribal community liaison. 

Carol began her employment with the Tribe as the tribal office secretary and tribal services coordinator. She has been with Yocha Dehe since 1995.

Academy Coordinator

Robin Nelson is the academy coordinator at Yocha Dehe Wintun Academy. She has been a member of the Academy staff since April 2008.

Prior to joining the school staff, Robin worked in the drug and alcohol treatment field.

Primary Class Teacher

Elva Sais is Yocha Dehe Wintun Academy's primary class teacher. She received her BA in liberal arts from California State University Sacramento, and her MA in multi-cultural/bilingual education with an emphasis in reading from Santa Clara University. Elva holds a Multiple Subjects Teaching Credential with an emphasis in bilingual/cross-cultural education and she has her Reading Specialist Credential.
