Matthew Lowell, Jr.

Matthew Lowell, Jr. is Tribal Treasurer of the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation. He was first elected to the Tribal Council in January 2012, and is one of its youngest members ever.

Treasurer Lowell is the first graduate of Yocha Dehe's Tribal Leadership Institute to serve on the Tribal Council. He is Chair of the Facilities & Infrastructure and the Young Adult Assistance Program (YAAP) Committees. Treasurer Lowell also serves as Treasurer of the Doyuti T’uhkama Board and is a Commissioner on the Tribal Gaming Agency (TGA) Board. He also is a member of the Health & Wellness Committee, Yocha Dehe Wintun Academy Board of Trustees, Fire Commission, and Property, Farm & Ranch Committee.

Treasurer Lowell is a committed voice for the Tribe’s young adult citizens. He is a strong advocate for education and knowledge as the best path for all of the Tribe’s youth. “Knowledge is power,” he believes. “With it, we can attain anything we want in life, and regain anything we have lost.”

Treasurer Lowell believes his responsibility as a member of the Tribal Council extends beyond helping the citizens of Yocha Dehe make the most of themselves. He believes the Tribe should also work to create positive impacts for people in neighboring communities.
